Join Us in Transforming Lives
Thank you for helping us to hit our $6k goal! We are now eligible to win a $100,000 grant from USA Today, but we still need your help! Every dollar will bring us one step closer to providing housing to families in need.
We are a current finalist for USA Today’s “A Community Thrives” Grant Challenge. The funds raised through this challenge will go towards a transformational project at Fair Haven. This project will meet a critical need and provide housing for patients and their families.

Each year, thousands of people travel to Indianapolis in a battle for their lives. They come from across the state and from across the country to receive critical medical care. When facing a serious illness, many patients need specialized care beyond what is available in their local communities.
At Fair Haven, patients and their families have the gift of a home-away-from-home. They stay free of charge in our fully-furnished apartments located in close proximity to the downtown medical center and area hospitals. Our faith-based mission is to serve these patients and their families through gracious hospitality and compassionate support.
Since opening our doors in 2007 as the only facility of its kind in Indianapolis, Fair Haven has provided more than 25,000 nights of lodging to almost 1,000 patients and their families. Patients are receiving treatment for cancer, organ transplant, cardiovascular and neurological disease, high-risk pregnancy, emergency medicine, and trauma. On average, seventy percent of those served are Hoosiers residing in counties outside of the Indianapolis metropolitan area, and thirty percent reside in other states or countries.
A Transformational Project
The strategic goal of this project is to increase patient housing by renovating an existing multi-family unit building while also building community engagement and long-term sustainability.
When renovations are complete, 12 additional families will receive free lodging each night. Each of twelve units will include a private bath, bedroom suite, and a mini-kitchenette. Common areas of the building will include a welcome area with a reception desk and a fireplace, a large common dining area, a community kitchen and pantry, a laundry room, two private shower rooms for a day services program, a prayer chapel, two conference rooms, and an office area with space for staff and volunteers.
In addition to expanding Fair Haven’s lodging program, this project will provide much-needed support to family members of hospitalized patients through a new day services program. Those spending days or weeks at the bedside of a loved one will have the opportunity to get away and be refreshed by taking a shower, washing clothes, and enjoying a complimentary meal and the comfort and support of caring volunteers.
The impact of this project will truly be transformational. It will increase Fair Haven’s housing for patients and their families by almost 150%. The new space, in combination with the existing housing program will generate 6,800 nights of free lodging for more than 430 families each year. It will ensure that acutely-ill patients have access to the specialized care they require along with consistent family support, both vital factors in healing and recovery. The new day service program will touch the lives of more than 1,000 family members each year as they care for a loved one in the hospital.
Your support of this project will help us to make this dream a reality for the patients and families that we serve.
